Training & Awareness
How we equip our team and inform our visitors to maintain a safe, vigilant community
Good safeguarding depends on well-trained people. At Middle World Farms, we invest in comprehensive training for all staff and volunteers, and we actively ensure that visitors understand our safeguarding expectations from the moment they arrive.
Staff training programme
Induction training: All new staff and volunteers receive mandatory safeguarding training during their induction, covering our policies, how to recognise signs of abuse or neglect, and reporting procedures.
Annual refresher training: All staff participate in refresher training each year to stay current with best practice and any changes to legal requirements.
Role-specific training: Staff who work directly with children, young adults, or vulnerable persons receive additional in-depth training, including scenario-based exercises.
DSL training: Our Designated Safeguarding Lead undergoes advanced training to manage reports, conduct risk assessments, and liaise with external safeguarding agencies.
Ongoing learning: We actively encourage staff to attend safeguarding courses, workshops, and webinars to deepen their understanding.
Visitor awareness
Safeguarding information signage: Clear safeguarding information is displayed at all entry points and key areas on the farm, including a summary of our policy and DSL contact details.
Visitor Code of Conduct: All visitors receive a copy of our Code of Conduct, which outlines expected behaviour and our commitment to safety — particularly for activities involving children and vulnerable groups.
Group orientations: Visitors attending guided tours or group activities receive a brief orientation covering our safeguarding approach, reporting procedures, and how they can contribute to a safe environment.
Visitor reporting: All visitors are informed how to raise a safeguarding concern — either by contacting the DSL directly or through a member of staff.
Promoting a culture of safeguarding
Open dialogue: Staff are actively encouraged to raise safeguarding concerns or ideas. We hold regular team meetings to review practices and share learning.
Staff accountability: Every team member is expected to model appropriate behaviour and uphold our safeguarding values in every interaction.
Feedback channels: We welcome feedback from visitors and staff on safeguarding practices, which feeds directly into our annual policy review.
